Rotary Park, Hamilton, Ohio
Summer 2017

The Taking Flight mural is a striking representation of a city striving toward new horizons. At its core is the sparrow, depicted in three stages of flight, abstracted and stylized to evoke the elegance of an origami bird. This design serves as a visual metaphor, honoring the city's industrial roots while symbolizing the foundation for its continued growth and progress.

This transformative project was made possible through StreetSpark, a public art initiative in collaboration with the Fitton Center for Creative Arts, the City of Hamilton, and the Hamilton Community Foundation. Led by designer Taylor Welch, the mural was brought to life by a talented team of artists, including Nicole Trimble, Nicole Tiffany, Sydnie Reatherford, Ciarra Craft, and Sara Toothman.

Together, the team combined creativity and craftsmanship to translate Welch’s vision into a bold and uplifting piece of public art, celebrating Hamilton’s past while inspiring its future.
